3 easy steps to health and wealth

I'll admit it. I often want a little inspiration to do what's good for me. Very often. A little reward. A little something in it for me. Apparently, the health benefits of exercise aren't enough of a lure on their own. So I have to trick - I mean, reward - myself. It's like a spoonful of sugar helping the medicine go down.

So, dear readers, if you find you have that problem as well, I've come up with an easy health and wealth building solution you might enjoy, too. 

It's just 3 easy steps:

  1. Go to the mall.
  2. Make money.
  3. Get fit. 

Rinse and repeat. That's it. It's that easy. Really. So here are the details.

First, you'll want to get yourself the Shopkicks app.  This is a great free app you can download on your phone. When you visit stores in your area listed on your app, you have several ways to earn kicks. Retailers offer walk-in kicks. All you have to do for those is walk into the store! The kicks will pop up on your screen and into your account. Yay! The next way to earn is to scan products. The app will show you the products to scan. Once you do so, those kicks will also go into your account. 

Many times there is also the option to purchase the item you scanned. If you do so (say you buy the Ragu or Purina dog food you just scanned), then you scan your receipt and will also accumulate more kicks. And, last, some retailers offer kicks if you purchase anything with a linked credit or debit card.

What I do is go to the mall and hit a wide array of stores. For instance, today I plan on visiting Brighton Collectibles, Aerie, and American Eagle. Looks like I can get 105 shopkicks just for walking into the stores. I'll park at the far end of the mall and get about a mile of walking in. Now, this is important: I do try not to buy anything. The whole point of this is to reward myself for getting some exercise!  (My favorite shopkicks reward is an Amazon gift card so that I can support my obsessive book reading habit. But there are zillions of other rewards to choose from. For instance, my daughter likes to use her for Sephora gift cards.)  There are plenty of stores that aren't at a mall, too. Many grocery stores, pharmacies ... it's all by your location, so it's easy to accumulate kicks. 

Next, to enhance your wealth and health building, you'll want to get yourself the Sweatcoins app. This is a brand new fitness app that rewards you for walking. When you earn certain levels of sweatcoins, you can use them to purchase items. While it measures all of your steps, at the moment it only rewards you with sweatcoins for walking outside, but if it's always on in the background, you're always earning when you get in and out of the car. And then, when you actually do go for a walk on a nice day, you're getting both the health and wealth-building benefits.

Combining the reward power of both of these apps, you're earning whether you're shopping or just walking outside. And that's enough to get me off the couch and out of the house!
